Meals on Wheels: Supporting Seniors in Asheville and Buncombe County

For over 45 years, Meals on Wheels of Asheville Buncombe County has delivered nutritious meals to homebound seniors in our community every weekday. We are dedicated to combating hunger, loneliness, and isolation among seniors, ensuring they remain healthy and independent.

Combating Senior Hunger and Isolation

  • One in Six Seniors Faces Hunger: We deliver meals to nearly 500 homebound seniors throughout Buncombe County. Without Meals on Wheels, many would face hunger and the risk of losing their independence.
  • One in Four Seniors Lives Alone: Approximately 55% of the seniors we serve live alone. For many, our volunteers are the only people they see or interact with during the entire day.
  • One in Five Seniors Feels Lonely: Many homebound seniors spend days without connecting with family or friends. Our program not only delivers meals but also brings a sense of companionship and care.
