Finding Hope and Strength After Hurricane Helene

Finding Hope and Strength After Hurricane Helene

Western North Carolina has been deeply affected by Hurricane Helene, and our active adult and retirement communities are focused on recovery. Hurricane Helene brought severe flooding and widespread damage to Western North Carolina, especially in the Asheville area. The heavy rain, combined with the region’s mountainous terrain, caused over 240 landslides and destroyed roads and bridges. The rebuilding process will take time, years, as many communities face significant infrastructure repairs. Some residents are still displaced, and essential services like water and power remain disrupted in the hardest-hit areas.

The steady buzz of chainsaws, the rhythmic thrum of helicopters, and the roar of transport planes overhead are constant reminders of the ongoing recovery efforts. On the ground, neighbors lend a hand to one another—clearing debris, sharing supplies, and offering comfort—showing the true strength and unity of our community, even in the toughest times.

We understand that the situation is evolving quickly, and it can be difficult to keep the most up-to-date information available on our site. While we deeply care about the devastation, the rebuilding process, and the pain of loss, Carolina Living Choices will be focusing on stories of resilience and heartwarming updates from our communities.

We are inspired by the resilience of our communities, like the Pack Mules caravan delivering supplies to remote areas, and we know there are many more stories of hope.

Please feel free to share your positive or inspirational stories with us—we’d love to highlight the moments that bring light during these challenging times.
